An article in Psych Central states that a biomarker has been identified by researchers that may be an indicator of mental illness in women. Research suggests that overproduction of a specific gene related to the X chromosome could be a diagnostic indicator of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression in women. These results indicate that that it may be possible to detect mental illness earlier with a simple blood test, which could lead to better interventions and outcomes.
