Some Arroyos psychologists and, on a limited basis, psychiatrists, provide emergency services. Our doctors are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Emergency evaluations are conducted in the office during normal business hours or via telephone after hours. The emergency situation is managed until appropriate resolution which may include arranging for hospitalization or emergency room evaluation, involving community resources, referral to community resources for treatment, or further assessment in the office. Arroyos doctors do not meet patients at the Emergency Room in order to personally conduct an emergency evaluation.
All Arroyos doctors are qualified to make Level of Care assessments to determine which treatment setting the patient should be placed in able to provide an optimum quality of care. Included in this assessment is the determination of whether the patient requires immediate hospitalization. Some of our psychologists have privileges to practice at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California, and can place a patient on a three day 5150 (involuntary) hold if the patient requires hospitalization but refuses voluntary admission. Patients are placed on involuntary holds if they are a danger to self, danger to others, or unable to provide for food, clothing, or shelter.
