An article reported on the UC San Diego (UCSD) Health System website reviews research completed at UCSD on happiness in schizophrenia.  The study found that 37 percent of schizophrenic patients who were surveyed felt happy most or all of the time.  These findings were independent of other factors such as how ill they were, how long they had been ill, their socioeconomic status, or their age or level of education.  This research suggests that psychotherapy can focus on helping patients with schizophrenia to develop and maintain more positive emotional attitudes.
