An article in Reuters reports that pan disorder is often linked to alcohol abuse. Research suggests that alcohol use serves the purpose to decrease the person’s level of anxiety, which reduces the likelihood of a panic attack. Once people begin abusing alcohol, however, the alcohol increases the person’s carbon dioxide sensitivity and increases the risk of panic attacks.
