According to an article in MNT, people who believe that alcohol is ‘heart healthy’ drink significantly more than people who do not. While the harmful effects of alcohol to an individual’s mental and physical health have been well established, debate still remains on whether there are cardiovascular benefits to drinking alcohol. The media overwhelmingly portrays alcohol as ‘heart healthy’, although little to no rigorous controlled trials have been conducted to support this theory.
