An article in Alcoholism and Addiction reports on a new study that has found specific traits that are shared by people suffering from depression, anxiety, and alcohol addiction. Feelings such as worry or hopelessness showed strong associations with alcohol dependence, and even stronger associations with depression and anxiety. Impulsivity was also associated with alcohol dependence, depression, and anxiety but to a much lesser degree. These results show that although negative emotional traits and impulsivity are separate and distinct from one another, they do overlap in some cases and do have the potential to predict diagnosis in some people. To read this article in its entirety, click here.
