Keith Valone, Ph.D., Psy.D., M.S.C.P.
CEO, Clinical Director, Staff Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Valone is a licensed clinical psychologist (CA PSY 7843) and received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He completed his internship at the Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute at the University of California, San Francisco, and a postdoctoral fellowship in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in the Department of Psychology at UCLA. He also has a doctorate and certification in psychoanalysis, and has a master of science in clinical psychopharmacology. Dr. Valone is a faculty member at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles, California. He is an LPS-designated member of the professional staff with co-admitting privileges at BHC Alhambra Hospital and Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Valone treats adults and adolescents and specializes in the treatment of bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, OCD spectrum disorders, psychotic disorders, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Dr. Valone has subspecialty skills in diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex mental disorders, psychopharmacology, psychological acute care, alternative sentencing, and working with attorneys, physicians, and patients in the entertainment industry.
Dr. Valone specializes in the following forms of psychological services: psychodynamic psychotherapy; psychoanalysis; couples therapy; Family Focused Therapy; clinical psychopharmacology (consultation and psychoeducation regarding diagnosis, medications, and psychotherapy); Interpersonal Therapy (IPT); Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT); CBT for bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse; family therapy for bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorders, and co-occurring substance abuse; level of care assessments for 5150 holds and hospitalization; hospital care.
Howard Askins, M.D., J.D.
Medical Director, Staff Psychiatrist
Dr. Askins is a board-certified psychiatrist. He completed his M.D. at Harvard Medical School, his J.D. at Harvard Law School, and his residency in psychiatry at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. He also completed a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the USC Institute of Psychiatry, Law, and Behavioral Science. Dr. Askins has been the Chief of Staff for 5 years at two hospitals and is a Commissioner with the Los Angeles County Mental Health Commission. Dr. Askins is a member of the medical staff with admitting privileges at Aurora Charter Oak Hospital, Huntington Memorial Hospital, and BHC Alhambra Hospital.
Dr. Askins treats adults and adolescents and specializes in the treatment of bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, OCD spectrum disorders, psychotic disorders, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Dr. Askins has subspecialty skills in the treatment of PTSD, eating disorders, ADHD, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Dr. Askins collaborates with the entire Arroyos Team with our outpatients, IOP, and PHP patients. Dr. Askins provides specialized pharmacological management of substance use patients with Suboxone detox and treatment of opioid and alcohol dependence with naltrexone.
Leona received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her A.A., Professional Designation in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. She is a practicing interior designer and an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers.
Leona manages The Arroyos Treatment Centers and The Arroyos Psychological Associates. She oversees all aspects of accounting, patient billing, and general business operations. She supervises our administrative and direct care staff, works closely with our clinical staff, and is always available to assist our patients and their families at any time with any question or concern. She is dedicated to ensuring that our patients and their families have the best possible experience at The Arroyos.
